Changing into a new pair of underwear

Hi guys! This is my first blog post EVER (nervous!). Here we go!

I”m originally from Boston, but have now been living and working in Italy for 5 years. Five years seem like a long time to me… maybe that’s because it is. In order to get my head around it,Β I tend to define 5 years as “even longer then all of college put together!”

Originally, I came here for a 1 year adventure – for the experience. However, after my first year, I felt in my heart that my experience wasn’t over yet, so I came back for year two. During my second year, I met I fell in love with a really special guy, and so… here I am 5 years later!

During my 5 years in Italy I have finally found love (kiss kiss), made many good friends (both Italian and foreign), changed cities (from Bologna to Milano), changed jobs (from English teacher to relocation coordinator to PR and translating), improved my Italian, come out of the damn closet (whew), lost weight, gained weight, lost weight (I still weigh a good deal less than I did when I lived in America full-time), learned to cook some really killer plates (even if I tend to use a bit more butter in my cooking than most Italians can appreciate), and really grown into an adult (sort of …. the plastic Ninja Turtles figures that I have managed to convince my boyfriend to let me keep in our little apartment would say otherwise).

So, Garrett, why did you decide to start a blog? What have you got to say?

Well, I feel “100% Garrett” when I am making people laugh, sharing my opinion, soap boxing, andΒ being the (much deserved, in my humble opinion) center of attention. I’ve come to realize that even if I don’t ever become a world-famous blogger (probable), this space can be a way for me to vent my creativity and share my thoughts with the world (or at least those 5 or 6 friends of mine who I can blackmail into following my blog).

I’m changing into a new pair of underwear. Let’s hope they’re at least clean (and if they make my package look bigger, all the better)!

  1. Hey G.,

    Will drop here sometimes.
Have fun w/ yr new blog!

  2. I’ll follow you college buddy! Enjoy the blogging. I’m glad you have found happiness in Italy and your guy.

  3. Bad choice of underwear… Quick question (never got anybody to answer): if you just did #2 (the solid), and you cannot take a shower, how to you clean yourself? Toilet paper is only part of the solution… And Hygienic wipes won’t do, they suck. You just walk around with a dirty filthy ass …. How flattering…. Damn I miss my bidet!!!!!!!!

  4. Thank you for creating a way for me to follow you without stupid facebook. I miss you every day and if this will put you in my day, then I am pumped. I expect posts daily. Don’t let me down. I plan on commenting on anything you say – deal with it.
    Love B-town

  5. Hi Garrett,
Great blog! I will definitely be checking back since I recognise so much – I’ve been in Italy five years, Bologna and now Milano, turned 30 this year, HATE Berlu, LOVE bidets (now anyway, they do take some getting used to!) and yes, you are so right about the colpi d’aria…
Since being here I haven’t really met any other Brits/Americans so it’s good to hear a sane precis of crazy things like the phenomonem of the cold drafts!
    Look forward to reading more!

    • Hi Phoebe! Thank you so much for checking out my blog and I’m glad that you “get me”. You are, after all, my target audience! πŸ™‚

We have ALOT in common! I was also originally in Bologna, but now I’m living in Milan too! Which one do you like better? I think I would have to say Bologna… but Milan’s got its up-sides.

Make sure to sign up for the e-mail subscription to my blog so that you can stay alerted when I post new stuff.
